A few days ago I was going through my stuff and found some artwork I did between 2000 and 2003.
At some point I painted a few portraits of important people in my life. Here is my roommate (at the time) Monika, who used to wear giant pompoms on her hair. She had them in blue, green and black if I remember correctly. :)

Halloween night was fun! I got felix to wear a skirt, heard some good music, had some good and some not-so-good drinks, saw a few friends, got a glimpse of what Savitha will look like when she's pregnant, tried for 30 minutes to take a cab in NYC's busiest cab nights and got one!, partied until later than usual, fell asleep on the train on our way home, woke up 2 stops after ours at 4 am, slept until 2 pm the next day...

After a long absence, here I am again, and you can blame 2 people for it: my friend Angela, who suggested last night that if my blog died hers would too, since I'm the one who inspired her to start it. I could probably deal with killing my own blog, but 2 deaths is too much to be responsible for!
The other person is Obama, whose winning last night ended in a riot in the streets of our neighborhood. I would have loved to be there but I was too busy sleeping. I fell asleep watching the results reports, around 10:30 pm. Yes, I'm old! After picking cherries, we had lunch in "Rock Da Pasta", an awesome place in New Paltz. A little later we got caught in the rain, which forced us to have tea and dessert in town, instead of hiking and swimming at the Mohawk preserve.
On our way home we stopped at Mount Fuji for some Hibachi!

Last week was my office's picnic in Pennsylvania and I have to say I was really impressed by the effort the company puts into this event. The food was delicious and there was a lot of entertainment, including a "Rodale Idol" contest, a reptile zoo and a couple of Orbitrons. I was fun to be outdoors eating nonstop -instead of in the cubicle- in such a gorgeous day!

This was at the Brooklyn botanical garden a couple of weeks ago (before the spring became winter again). Cherry blossoms are SO pretty! why are most spring trees pink or white? is that only in NY? :) and why can't it just warm up once and for all?

Yesterday colombians in many cities in the world got out to the streets to show that we don't agree with the FARC's actions. I got to go for a little while (I work not far from the place where this happened in NY) and even though I expected to see more people, it was a good turnout for a monday. Below are some pics I borrowed from flickr. The bottom photo is of the event in Bogota, very impressive!!! so, if you FARC think you're the army of the people, what people are you talking about?

I can't complain about 2007. So many good things happened this year and I am so grateful for each one of them! Tied the knot with the most awesome guy, got a new job, saw my whole family-some of them twice, traveled around, etc, etc. Hope 2008 will bring as many god things or even more to me and everyone who reads this blog ;)

Last night was my new job's holiday party at the Briant Park Grill (really nice!) The place was packed even though it looks empty in the photos --which BTW aren't mine. Growing up I always dreamed of being a figure ice skater (as cheese as it might be I still wish I could be one). When I was about 7 there was an ice skating rink in the city where my sister started taking lessons. I was so excited to go with her, but when we got there they didn't have skates my size, so I had to stay outside and watch the class, and patiently wait to grow up a little more so I could be in there.
By the time my feet were big enough for their skates, the place closed... It turns out that it's expensive to keep an ice rink when it's 80 degrees year round.

I still love ice skating!

We spent thanksgiving at our friends Paula and Juancho's place. Juancho was in charge of the turkey and I made a potato dish (third pic) and vegan apple pie! everything turned out delicious and we had a lot of fun :) yay for colombians celebrating thanksgiving!

On Halloween we went for a walk around the village. Pretty crazy! I was little black riding hood--caperucita negra (I'll take any opportunity to wear that blue wig) and the big success of the nigh was my friends' costume of a shower (third pic down)! We got to see a bit of the parade and some cool stuff!

yesterday it was my birthday, and it was also a beautiful fall day! we rented a car, headed north (after heading south by mistake) and ended up (also by mistake) by Bear Mountain. It was a nice turn of events; we did a short hike, enjoyed the gorgeous view of the lake and the foliage and finished with a slice of cake!

Last night my good friend from high school got married. The wedding was a lot of fun! Her family surprised her with a mariachi serenade, and there was also a "saint patrick's hour". Felix had a few aguardientes and showed off his newly acquired dancing skills all night :)

A couple of days ago we got back from Nuqui, a small village in the colombian pacific, where the rain forest meets the ocean. It is a beautiful place, wild and virgin. We did some scuba diving and saw dolphins and whales! walked in the jungle and saw poisoning frogs! crossed a river swimming, bathed in a thermal pool and showered in waterfalls!

the night before our wedding we had a dinner with our families and our friends from out of town. The food was amazing; my parents learned how to play with their chopsticks (after all the years telling me not to play with my utensils!)
The highlight of the night (at least for me) was that I got to hangout with my good friend from high school, Angela, after 5 years of not seeing each other (fourth picture from top).

Last night walking around our neighborhood I saw Jemaine Clement, from Flight of the Conchords! To be fair, my friend Savitha saw him first, and even talked to him and had her picture taken. This saturday was the opening of a new exhibit at Giant Robot: Susie Ghahremani, who I really like! we missed the opening of her show last year, and by the time we went everything we could afford had been sold... so this year we went early and bought a cute tiny piece to add to our little "art collection". The Beastie Boys played last night in Brooklyn for the first time EVER! Since Felix is a big fan and I like the location a lot (McCarren Pool in Williamsburg) we went to see them. I don't really know the songs well, which makes a concert less fun than if you do, but I have to say, It was a really good show!

on sunday I went to the beach with my friend Savitha and it was fun and relaxing. You'll notice my lack of tan. Well, I was so afraid to burn that I wore SPF55 all over!

Around 5 o'clock today my boss told our department to go upstairs because someone was having a party and wanted us to come. When I got there with my coworker John- who's also getting married- we were received with a big "SURPRIIIIISE!!!" from all the people we work with. At first I thought they were joking, but when I saw Felix in the crowd, I realized it was a surprise party for us! that was so nice! they had tons of food and wine, and even a cake with our names on it! :)

Last weekend was a long one, so we decided to go to Montreal for a "get away of the city by going to another city" kind of thing. The food was great, I ate like a PIG! but I also burnt up those calories with a bike ride to Mount Royal Park, which I loved. There was a lot of artsy cool stuff happening too (see below pictures).

We went to the AIR concert last thursday :) I loved it! it was a great show, they played everything, from slow and quiet to the fast finale that almost gave felix an epileptic fit. And the lights (when they weren't hitting us directly on the eye) were super cool! I define them as a science-fiction band: a little nerdy, a little cool, a little robotic...

Hard to believe, but Frank Gehry -now 78- never built anything in New York until now.
His new building, the IAC headquarters, opened last month and even though I don't love everything he does, I think this one is really cool.
I love the white glass!

after winter-like temperatures, extreme wind and northeastern storms all this month, the spring is finally here, the trees have bloomed, and I saw the first tulips of the year :) this weekend was GORGEOUS!!!!

every piece of grass in the city was covered with people in skimpy clothes, every park was packed, every bike was out there, and of course ours too!
we biked to central park and had a picnic with our friends Chris and Lane, stayed there all day and biked back home. So nice!

We went to this art exhibit on thursday. It was pretty cool and I really liked on of the artists (last photo). But what we liked the most was the ottomans, which had some of the art printed on the top (unfortunately they didn't want to sell them to us)! We also got to go on the VIP-only night thanks to my well-connected people ;)

I haven't been posting much lately, I know, I'm loosing my viewers... instead of the 300.000 visits a day I'm only getting about 280.000.
My excuses are that I've been very busy at work, and preparing our wedding and also it's winter which means I don't do su much fun stuff that it's worth telling about.
It's snowing/raining again today :( and we're at the time of the year when you just can't take that anymore. But spring is around the corner... happiness is coming!

anyway, there is this guy from work who got sent to the war in Iraq 8 months ago. He sends updates once in a while and yesterday we received these photos. When I saw them I thought "that's a cool looking mountain behind their camp" but then I read the email and learned that the huge thing that looks like a mountain is a SANDSTORM!!!! that's the craziest thing I've ever seen.

It was Valentine's night, so I invited Felix to a candleligh dinner at Maria's Joint (AKA home). It was my first three-course-100%vegan meal and it was a success! felix loved the spicy tomato soup (and everything else), and I managed not to burn anything :) we also had a bottle of sparling shiraz we brought from Australia!

I'm back to the sad reality of a 9 to 6 job... but the trip was pretty amazing and the good memories haven't faded! we had lots of fun and saw many, many cool things, including penguins coming out of the ocean at dusk to go back to their nests :)

We arrived to Melbourne last night after being in the outback for 3 days at temperatures of 110F (43C). The payoff was seing some really cool landscapes and animals (including many colorful birds, a goanna, some lizards and kangaroos!).
The rocks in the photos are Kata-Tjuta and Uluru, sacred places for the aborigenes. They're gigantic and literally in the middle of nowhere!
Heading for New Zealand tomorrow morning...

Last sunday we went to New Jersey with some friends from work and visited a corn maze. It was cool and harder than we thought, eventhough we had maps along the way that told us where we were, we didn't find the exit and ended up at back at the entrance. After that, girls against boys competed, and guess who won... (I have to admit that we cheated a little, but we would have won anyway!)

To finish the day, we went to Mount Fuji, a hibashi restaurant on top of a hill, where we had a huge and delicious meal. It was a really fun day!

The fall folliage was at its best! Then a tractor took us to the pumpking patch, and again it was the end of the season but there were some good pumpkings left. After much deliberation Felix and chose a small pumpking that looked like a giant pepper!

Last sunday we went on a day trip to upstate NY with our friends Chris and Lane. First we went apple picking, which was very cool eventhough it's the end of the season, so many trees didn't have any apples.
Still, we picked 2 half bags of delicious fresh apples!

the receptionist sounded a little mad when she called me and my coworker yelled "I can't take this any more!"

Imagine my surprise when the receptionist called me on tuesday to tell me that there were more flowers for me! there was a general AHHHHHHH! in the room when I brought them to my office :)

I was at work in the miserable cold monday morning when I got this really cool flowers from Felix. They say "Happy birthday week!" how nice :)

Naty's birthday was on monday, so last night I took her to Max Brenner's chocolate bar, a new place where they serve chocolate in every possible way. We had fun and a delicious chocolate fondue!
